German Trifle

By Julie

Recently, I had a craving for German rye bread and bought a whole pack of pumpernickel. Once my craving was satisfied, I had the rest of this pack sitting around in my kitchen cupboard. Later that week, a friend came visiting us from the US of A, so I decided to use my German bread as you cannot find decent bread in the States (I am sorry, it is true). For some reason unknown, it occurred to me to make a dessert with it, so here is my German trifle:

Slow-roasted Boneless Pork Shoulder with Spices

By Diana

I went to the supermarket the other day and found thousands of boneless pork shoulders at a very decent price and decided to try it out for a change. I never eat pork to be honest, my father on the contrary loves it! He could eat pork every day, for breakfast, for snack… he is kind of a pork freak… what can I say… when I told him that I bought pork at the supermarket instead of the usual chicken breast  he was so proud and happy that I decided to post his beloved pork on the blog this week. This recipe is a mix of spices really, a little of what I have seen my dad doing with his porks… kind of… it tastes amazing though, I promise! Very spicy and full of flavour! I am sorry for my vegetarian friends, this post is not for you guys!

Leche Frita

By Julie

When Spanish people want to express something is awesome, fantastic, great, they often use the idiom “Es la leche!” which translates to “It’s the milk!” Our recipe suggestion for this week is inspired by this expression, as I believe it is one of the best desserts I have tried in my life. I discovered ‘leche frita’, literally “deep-fried milk”, after a sumptuous meal in a traditional asador, one of the many barbecue restaurants around Pamplona and was first drawn to try it for the interesting name. Let me say I did not regret my curiosity and so I will share this delicacy with you here.

Potato, Apple and Cucumber Salad with Greek Style Yogurt Dressing

By Diana

For those of you who love a healthy option but yet enjoyable and a little bit original then this tasty dish is definitely a recipe you have to try out. It could be said that this is an extension of that famous Greek cucumber salad called Tzatziki. In our version we are adding potatoes and green apples for an experience of more varied textures and flavours. Also I believe classic Tzatziki is commonly use as a dip for immersing lovely pieces of pita bread… we are promoting here a more solid variable that can be enjoyed as a dish in itself. As with the Tapioca from last week, this is perfect as a refreshing entrance or as a side dish too. We hope you like it!

Cranberry and coconut cookies

By Diana

This is a fantastic recipe that will never let you down! I was always worried about finding the perfect cookies recipe so when I get older my granddaughters and grandsons will have a great reason to come and visit the weird and creepy granny. Very easy to make and it doesn´t have to be cranberries and coconut, you can always swap the flavours for almonds or walnuts (if you are not a potential nut allergic like me), raisins or delicious chocolate. Is just a matter of experimenting!

Green Pearl Tapioca

By Diana

This is probably one of the most beautiful dishes I have ever cooked so far. When I made it I couldn’t help starring at the dish, just embellished by it. The thing looked like jewelry! It is unbelievable easy to make and tastes simply delicious. I have to say that this is a modified recipe from LadurĂ©e Savory Recipes Book (the first one I have tried). The dish is perfect for a light meal in itself or as an entrance or side dish. We ate it on the side with chicken breast and a salad. Tapioca is an ingredient I definitely will be using again in this blog. I hope you love it as I did!

Indoor Picnic Chicken Wings

By Diana

I saw this recipe on TV the other day and I decided to try it yesterday at home for dinner and surprise the husband with something different. The original recipe says it should be cooked outdoors in the BBQ, but for those of us that live crowded in the top of a house in London and can only dream of a garden… then the oven is a perfect choice. This is a slightly different version of the BBQ chicken wings from the BBC website. Absolutely fun and delicious!
